The Apple iPad Air is the fifth iPad to be released so far and is akin to the iPad Mini in respects to its thin design and light weight.
The Apple iPad Air was announced in October 22 of this year, and released just a short while later on November 1, 2013. Reviews, reports, and specifications all herald it as the best iPad in the series, as well as a major contender for the top spot in the tablet market so far!
Apple iPad Air Features
The Apple iPad Air, or Apple iPad 5, is very light, small, and beautiful in its design. If you have not had the luxury of testing out one of these devices at a local Apple store, or from a friend, then check out the specs below because you will surely be tempted to buy one when you hear all of its features under the hood!
Housing – The iPad Air is available in the traditional black or white colors with a sleek grey back. It has a large display that is a lot narrower on the edges than the previous Apple iPad versions; however it definitely gives it a subtly better overall appearance.
Display – The display on the new Apple iPad 5 is quite impressive. It has a 9.7 inch display with an impressive resolution of 1536 pixels x 2048 pixels. Overall the pixel density for the screen is 264 pixels per square inch which looks fabulous on the LED lit LCD IPS touchscreen display.
Memory – there is no microSD slot, which is quite unfortunate, however you can always make use of virtual drives to store your data if you feel they are secure enough. The Apple iPad Air does come equipped with a full gig of DDR3 RAM coupled with your choice of internal memory sizes: 16 gigs, 32 gigs, 64 gigs, or 128 gigs.
Camera(s) – the iPad Air has both a forward and a rear facing camera. The forward facing camera is 1.2 megapixels and is capable of 720 pixel video recording. On the flip side, the rear camera is 5 megapixels and is capable of recording 1080 pixels in video.
Processor – Powered by an Apple A7 dual core Cyclone processing chip that clocks in at 1.3 GHz, this tablet performs superbly especially since it is coupled with the quad core PowerVR GPU.
Operating System – As you know, all Apple devices run off of the iOS operating systems, and their latest Apple iPad Air is no different. This device is on the latest iOS 7.0.4 operating system.
Battery – Lastly, the battery on the Apple iPad Air is more than sufficient especially when compared to other tablet devices. This battery is, unfortunately, non-removable; however it is a 8,820 mAh battery. This powerful battery can sustain the Apple iPad Air for up to ten hours of multimedia use on a single charge!
Price – the price on the Apple iPad Air is where things get a little disappointing as it is as much as a decent laptop. Pay $500 for the 16 gig Wi-Fi only model (expensive enough), but pay almost a grand for the Wi-Fi + Data model with 128 gigs.
