Special Telecast on Sikh Gurta Gaddi Diwas

Guru Nanak Daata Baksh Lai Mission, Chandigarh, has released a new Video on the 300th Sacred Akal Gaman (SachKhand Gaman) Diwas of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib. The video titled “Nanak Runna Baba Janiye Je Rove Lai Piaro” is available on the “300 Saal Guru De Naal” website set up by the mission solely for this most sacred event of this century. This event follows soon after the 300th Gur Ta Gaddi Diwas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib being celebrated as “300 Saal Guru De Naal” at Takhat SachKhand Sri Hazur Abchal Nagar Sahib.

Special programmes on the 300th Gurta Gaddi Divas and the 300th Akal Gaman Diwas prepared by Guru Nanak Daata Baksh Lai Mission will be telecast on the reputed Punjabi Channel “PTC News” for 4 days starting from November 1st till November 4th. It will be shown on November 1 and 2 (Saturday and Sunday) from 10:30 am to 11:00 am (IST) and on November 3 and 4 (Monday and Tuesday) from 9:30 am to 10:00 am (IST).

404th parkash utsav of Guru Granth Sahib

The Sikh devotees participated in a nagar kirtan on September 1, to mark the 404th parkash utsav of Guru Granth Sahib at the Golden Temple. Begning from Ramsar Gurdwara, the procession passed through bazaars, including Ramsar Road, Chowk Krori, Chowk Baba Sahib and Baba Atal Gurdwara, and was led by the Panj Piaras. The kirtan concluded at the Golden Temple.

Devotees stood on sides of the road to pay obeisance to Guru Granth Sahib place in a golden palanquin decorated with flowers. They chanted “Guru Maneyo Granth”.

A Journalist’s Walking Guide to the Persecution of Falun Gong in Beijing

The Falun Dafa Information Center released today a report providing detailed leads on 16 Chinese citizens detained or killed recently in Beijing and surrounding provinces for practicing Falun Gong. At least nine of the 16 have died in police custody since the beginning of 2008 and several were persecuted with the complicity of local hospitals and educational institutions.

“Most of those traveling to Beijing this week for the Olympics have likely heard of Falun Gong and the Communist Party’s brutal campaign to crush it,” says Levi Browde, the Center’s Executive Director. “But few realize that the violence meted out against these peaceful believers has been so pervasive to have affected most neighborhoods in Beijing, including those within walking distance of Olympic venues, hotels, and prominent landmarks.”

Disney Sued for Alleged Religious Discrimination

The Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF), the oldest Sikh American civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, in collaboration with Matthew Sarelson of Sarelson, P.A., has filed a class action religious discrimination lawsuit against Walt Disney World Company on behalf of Mr. Sukhbir Channa and the Sikh American community.

Mr. Channa, a practitioner of the Sikh religion, applied for a job with Disney in the Fall of 2006 but was not hired and was allegedly told that he did not have “the Disney look” — a negative reference to his religiously-mandated dastaar (Sikh turban). Witnesses have filed affidavits in his support. The lawsuit seeks financial damages and a court order barring Disney from ever discriminating against prospective Sikh employees.

Photos of Sikh terrorists Banned at Calgary Nagar Kirtan

Following in the footsteps of Sikh Community in Toronto, the management committee of Dashmesh Cultural Center (Martindale) intervened to remove a float with pictures of Sikh terrorists from the procession this past week during the Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan. The float was organized by volunteers of the Sikh Federation and was displaying pictures of various dead Sikh terrorists , including Bhai Beant Singh, Bhai Satwant Singh, Bhai Kehar Singh, Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda.

The management committee was always reluctant to allow the float to take part in the procession, but after protests and delay, the float finally took off. But it was soon asked to change route by the Calgary Police on the behest of the Gurdwara Committee. The terrorism promoters who had no other option, but to park the float by the side where they told the sangat passing by the what the committee had done. Later, the float was taken to the parking lot of the Gurdwara Sahib where Sangat is always present in large numbers during nagar kirtans and pictures of Shaheed Singhs were put on display.
